Character system
Bramble: the Mountain King offers a unique and engaging story, combining the fairy tale world with horror elements from the Nordic region. Mystical creatures appear throughout the game, each with a separate story.
Troll – Giant Goblin
Troll, a giant goblin, is the first monster to appear in the game. In legend, Trolls are often described as large, evil goblins that only appear at night and often kidnap humans to eat. In Bramble, Trolls are petrified when exposed to light, similar to the legend of their ability to turn to stone when exposed to sunlight.
Näcken – The man playing music by the lake
Näcken is the second boss, appearing as a man playing music by the lake. Legend has it that Näcken was once a man playing the violin, but after being ostracized, he became a goblin that haunts the lake, dragging unlucky people to their deaths.
Kärrhäxan – The Swamp Witch
Kärrhäxan is the third boss in the swamp area, with the appearance of a girl but the head of a deer. In Swedish, Kärrhäxan means swamp witch. Legend has it that Kärrhäxan can be a good witch, very good at healing, but can also be a goblin who likes to eat people, especially children.
Skogsrå – The Dark Forest God
Skogsrå is a woman with a red heart on her chest. Legend has it that Skogsrå often appears as a beautiful woman, deceiving and enchanting men so that they lose their minds and never return.
Pesta – Goddess of Plague
Pesta is a Norse folk goddess who is considered to represent the Black Death. According to legend, she is often dressed in red or blue and carries a broom and a rake. If you see Pesta holding a rake, you may live, but if you see Pesta holding a broom, it means you will face death.
In Bramble: The Mountain King, Pesta is one of the challenges the protagonist must overcome to save his sister Lillemor. When confronting Pesta, she is holding a rake, which shows that she has no intention of taking the boy’s life.
The Mountain King – The Cursed King
The Mountain King is a king who brings suffering to the land of Bramble. The story is inspired by the famous play Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen. He has a son named Ulrik. One day, the queen dies, King Nils is extremely sad. Ulrik also falls seriously ill and only a magical flower can save him.
King Nils ordered his men to find the magic flower. The search lasted for many years and caused much suffering to the people. Many innocent girls were captured and brutally tortured just because they were suspected of being witches. Finally, King Nils found the magic flower. After drinking the special medicine, Ulrik was cured and returned to normal.
But during a celebration, Ulrik was murdered. King Nils was extremely sad and angry. He used the power of the magic flower to turn his castle into a mountain and imprisoned himself in it.
One day, Olle got lost in the Bramble Forest, was captured by the Trolls and taken to King Nils’ castle. When he saw Olle, King Nils remembered his son. He felt remorse for what he had done, used his sword to stab the magic flower, freeing the kingdom from the curse.
